APU HOUSING WELD CRACKS

Description

IDLE FREE IS RECALLING CERTAIN AUXILIARY POWER UNITS (APUS) SOLD FROM OCTOBER 2009 TO MAY 2011, AND INSTALLED AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT ON HEAVY TRUCKS. THE WELDS ON THE METAL HOUSING OF THE FRAME RAIL SYSTEM MAY CRACK AND TEAR.

Injuries / Consequence

IF LEFT UNCHECKED, THE WELDS MAY COMPLETELY FAIL, ALLOWING THE APU TO FALL FROM THE FRAME RAIL. IF THE UNIT FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED, THE UNIT COULD STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR A PEDESTRIAN INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY.

Remedy
