BRAKES:ELECTRIC:CONTROL:HYDRAULIC
Description
THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY CONTAIN HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS WHICH DO NOT COMPLETELY CUT OFF THE ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLIED TO THE TRAILER BRAKES AND BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN PRESSURE IS REMOVED FROM THE TOWING VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL. THE USE OF A CONTROLLER WHICH EXHIBITS THIS DEFECT MAY RESULT IN THE TRAILER BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINING ON AND THE TRAILER BRAKES REMAINING PARTIALLY ACTUATED. PROLONGED ACTUATION OF THE TRAILER BRAKES WHILE THE TRAILER IS BEING TOWED COULD RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP IN THE BRAKES, BRAKE LINING AND MAGNET WEAR, AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE.
Remedy
