COUNTRY COACH/FMVSS 104/WINDSHIELD WIPER SURFACE

Recalled: June 28, 2002 ~8 units affected 02V149

Description

CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 104, "WINDSHIELD WIPING AND WASHING SYSTEMS." THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM MANUFACTURED BY AM EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLED ON THESE MOTOR HOMES WAS DETERMINED NOT TO MEET THE MINIMUM PERCENT OF AREA TO BE WIPED WHILE THE MOTOR HOME IS DRIVEN AT SPEEDS OF 55 MPH OR MORE.

Injuries / Consequence

THE FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM TO ADEQUATELY CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD COULD LEAD TO A REDUCTION IN VISIBILITY DURING CRITICAL PERIODS WHEN SURFACE WIPED IS REDUCED AND COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTORS, WIPER MOTOR PANTOGRAPHS, WIPER ARMS AND BLADES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 1, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT COUNTRY COACH AT 1-800-452-8015.
