Description

ROUTING OF THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS MAY PERMIT CHAFING BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK DISC AND THE CONVOLUTED TUBING WHICH HOUSES THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS.

Injuries / Consequence

EXTENSIVE CHAFING CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE AN ELECTRICALSHORT AND RESULT IN A FIRE. ALSO, THE FUSE LINK WIRED TO THE IGNITION CIRCUITMAY PERMIT OVERLOADING IF A SHORT OCCURS.

Remedy

CLAMP THE WIRING HARNESS AWAY FROM MOVING PARTS OF THE STEERING COLUMN. REPLACE THE FUSIBLE LINK IN THE CIRCUIT WITH AN APPROPRIATE AMPERAGE LOAD CAPACITY FUSIBLE LINK.
