Description

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS B MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON DODGE 3500 OR 2500 VAN CHASSIS. THE GENERATOR FUEL PICKUP FITTING WAS SELF TAPPED INTO A DRILLED HOLE BESIDE THE FUEL SENDING UNIT ON TOP OF THE PLASTIC FUEL TANK. SEALANT WAS USED ON THE THREAD BEFORE THE FITTING WAS SCREWED INTO THE TANK. ON SOME VEHICLES, THE FUEL PICKUP FITTING WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AGAINST THE TANK WALL, AND WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, FUEL OR FUEL VAPORS CAN LEAK OUT.

Injuries / Consequence

IN A CRASH, FUEL OR FUEL VAPORS CAN LEAK WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SELF TAPPING FUEL PICKUP WITH A NEW ONE WITH REGULAR THREAD FITTING SECURED TO THE TANK WITH A LOCK NUT INSIDE THE TANK.
