Lower Boom May Fail

Recalled: November 22, 2024 ~158 units affected 24V881

Description

Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 1995-1996 AM and AN aerial devices. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. The hydraulic cylinder head gland may have been improperly manufactured, which can result in it detaching from the barrel of the cylinder while under load, leaving the lower boom unsupported.

Injuries / Consequence

A loss of lower boom support during operation could cause the lower boom to fall, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Owners should inspect the cylinder and confirm that the cylinder matches the part number and serial number list. If the unit has an affected cylinder, the owner should remove the unit from service or replace the cylinder. If an owner chooses to keep a recalled unit in service, Altec will offer a kit the owner can purchase, and install at their own expense. Owner notification letters were mailed May 6, 2025. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3199.
