LPG WATER HEATER (RV)

Recalled: December 4, 1985 ~157,606 units affected 85E035

Description

CERTAIN WIND CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A DOWN DRAFT AND CREATE A SLIGHT POSITIVE PRESSURE AT THE WATER HEATER FLUE GAS OUTLET. THIS MAY CAUSE A FLAME REVERSAL TO OCCUR FROM THE BURNER TUBE IN THE COMPARTMENT BETWEEN THE WATER HEATER AND THE COMBUSTION PAN. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE FLAMES THAT OCCUR DURING FLAME REVERSAL MAY CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE GASKET SURROUNDING THE PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE RELEF VALVE. THIS ALLOWS THE FLAMES TO CONTACT THE FIBERBOARD JACKET AROUND THE WATER STORAGE TANK. IF THIS OCCURS A SMOLDERING FIRE MAY RESULT AND CREATE A RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND ITS OCCUPANTS.

Remedy

REPLACE PRESENT GASKET WITH ONE THAT HAS A HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE AND FLAME RESISTANT MATERIAL.
