MANDATORY FUEL SHUT-OFF VALVE UPGRADE

Recalled: April 23, 2010 ~11 units affected 10V165

Description

WESTPORT IS RECALLING CERTAIN ISX G CLASS 8 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS PUMPS. THE VENT HOLE ASSOCIATED WITH THE PUMP PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE MAY HAVE BEEN COVERED BY A WELDING PROCESS, DURING THE MANUFACTURE OF THE PUMP. THIS CAN RENDER THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE INEFFECTIVE, RESULTING IN THE POSSIBLE BUILD UP OF GAS IN THE PUMP IF THE MANUAL SHUT-OFF VALVE IS CLOSED.

Injuries / Consequence

THIS COULD RESULT IN A SUDDEN LEAK OF HIGH PRESSURE GAS WITHIN THE TANK SHROUD AND A SLOWER LEAK OF TANK PRESSURE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR VEHICLE OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

Remedy

WESTPORT WILL INSPECT AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM BY UPGRADING TO AN AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF VALVE THAT DOES NOT USE THE VENT HOLE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT INLAND KENWORTH FONTANA AT 1-909-823-9955 AND INLAND KENWORTH MONTEBELLO AT 1-323-278-4100.
