EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: COAL DUMP BODIES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 1998 AND SEPTEMBER 30, 2000. THE REAR TAIL AND STOP LAMP LOCATION DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT."
Injuries / Consequence
THE LOCATION OF THE REAR STOP LAMPS COULD BE OBSCURED BY MUDFLAPS OR ICC BUMPERS. DRIVERS APPROACHING FROM THE REAR MAY HAVE A DEPTH PERCEPTION PROBLEM WITH LIGHTS TOO FAR FORWARD. AN APPROACHING DRIVER CAN CRASH INTO ONE OF THESE VEHICLES, POSSIBLY CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
