Seat Belt Retractor Failure/FMVSS 209
Description
Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain model year 2015 GEM EL, ES, E4, E4S, ELXD, E6, E6S, and E2 vehicles manufactured December 15, 2014, to August 25, 2015. The seat belts in the affected vehicles have retractor mechanisms that may fail, causing the seat belt to be stuck in one position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."
Injuries / Consequence
If the seat belt does not retract or extend, the seat occupant may not be properly secured in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
Remedy
GEM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on December 31, 2015. Owners may contact GEM Consumer Service Department at 1-855-743-3436. Polaris' number for this recall is L-15-02.
