Description

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CONVERSION SCHOOL BUSES EQUIPPED WITH A SINGLE REAR EMERGENCY DOOR. THE LAST SEAT IS TOO CLOSE TO THE EMERGENCY REAR DOOR RESTRICTING THE PASSAGE. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 217, "BUS WINDOW RETENTION AND RELEASE."

Injuries / Consequence

IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, AN OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY EXIT THE VEHICLE.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE SEATS FORWARD; REPLACE REAR-MOST SEAT BACK CUSHION WITH A THIN BACK; OR REMOVE 30" WIDE REAR-MOST SEAT AND REPLACE WITH A 16" WIDE SEAT.
