Air Bag Crash Sensors Damaged During Manufacturing

Description

ZF North America, Inc. (ZF) is recalling certain Remote Accelerometer Sensors (RAS) installed in 2019 Chrysler Jeep Cherokee and 2018 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles. The air bag crash sensors may have been exposed to excessively high temperatures during manufacturing, resulting in damaged soldering connections within the sensors.

Injuries / Consequence

A damaged air bag crash sensor may cause a delayed air bag deployment in a frontal crash or a risk of a non-deployment in a low speed crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

ZF has notified the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the affected parts. The vehicle manufacturers notified their owners, and dealers will replace the air bag crash sensor, free of charge. Chrysler vehicle owners may contact their customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Volkswagen vehicle owners may contact their customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Chrysler's number for this recall is V63. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69AL.
