The affected helmets may not adequately protect the wearer's head in the event of an impact, and an object may penetrate the helmet. Additionally, these helmets may not be labeled properly. As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, "Motorcycle Helmets."

Injuries / Consequence

Helmets that do properly protect the wearer's head can increase the risk of injury to the wearer in the event of a crash. Missing labeling information reduces the user's possibility of identifying the helmet in the event of a safety recall.
